Chapter eighteen

After another five days Kris was finally feeling normal again. She still got tired really fast and Doc Miller asked her not to do sports in the next two weeks, but besides that she was fine.

Well, maybe except the fact that Jon was following her like an overprotective clucking hen. He was worried that she could feel dizzy again like she had when she was walking downstairs the first day she got up. Dot tried her best to make him see that he was overreacting, but it wasn’t really working. Kris was more than thankful that she could go to school again on Monday.

But before she could do that, she had to work herself with Alex’ help through all the homework and stuff she missed in the last ten days. What a joy! At least Jon would leave her alone for a while. She chuckled. He didn’t know it by now though, but Dot had a little plan to make him leave the house.

Shortly after 10 am Alex and her mother showed up. Alex had tried to assure her mother that it wasn’t necessary to drop her off, but her mother told her she wanted to get to know the family where her daughter would spend the next several hours. Rockstar or not, she wouldn’t leave her there without checking them out.

Alex rolled her eyes and as soon as she had greeted Jon and Dot, Kris and she vanished into the dining room. The adults only shook their heads. Teenagers!

“I told Alex to give me a call when they are ready, so I can pick her up again.” Alex’s mother said.

“How about we drive her back when the girls are finished? Who knows when they are done and it’s already snowing so strongly again, I would feel bad to make you come back.” Jon suggested.

Dot smiled. She knew he was only offering that, because Alex’ mother didn’t freak out when he opened the door.

“Really? Oh, that would be great! You know I have three other kids at home and I’m afraid they...” Her cell phone rang. “Excuse me…”

“No problem.” Jon assured her.

“Ah, when you talk out the devil…” she smirked. “What’s wrong?” she asked instead of a greeting. She listened to an annoyed sounding voice for a second.

“Andy! Stop it! You have all the afternoon off when I’m home again…” She listened to her son again. “Ok, ok…just don’t burn the house down…I’ll be there in 15 minutes…oh, you will have those 15 minutes Mister, because otherwise you won’t have 48 hours of weekend…See, I thought so! See you soon.” She closed her cell and sighed.

“Take my advice, never ever four kids…they are lovely, but they’ll kill you.” She advised Dot, before she left in her car, who could only laugh.

When Dot turned around she could see Jon walking towards the dining room.

“Jon? What do you think you are doing there?” she asked with her hands on her hips.

“I’m…just…I’m…” he stuttered.

Dot put her arms around his neck. “She’s fine. I will check on them and I’m sure Alex would call us immediately when Kris doesn’t feel well.”

Jon sighed. “But...” Dot put her index finger on his lips and stopped him.

“No, buts!...Besides you have to work.” She pointed out.

“What are you talking about?” he asked her confused.

Dot took his hand and pulled him into the living room.

“Ah, there he is! Can we start now? I have already withdrawals.” David greeted him.

“What are you doing here?” he stared at his friends and bandmates in disbelieve.

“Well, your Mrs thought it’s time for you to work again.” Richie answered and gave Dot a peck on her cheek. She smiled.

Jon pouted. “But Kris, she…”

“JON! Don’t make me angry.” Dot said strictly.

Before he could open his mouth again, a strong hand was placed on his shoulder and Tico whispered in a low voice “Come on Jonny, you know she’s right.” And pulled Jon towards the patio doors. Jon growled slightly, but followed his drummer.

“Have a good day, honey.” Dot said laughing and blew him a kiss when he looked back at her, still pouting.

“You are great, you know that, right?” David asked her chuckling before following the others.

“Yeah, I know.” She said laughing and closed the door behind him.

*******************************************

While Dot was getting Jon out of the house, Kris and Alex were talking in the dining room and spread out all the papers on the huge table.

“This is really a great place, Kris. And your parents seem to be really nice.” Alex said while looking through a pile of papers.

“Yeah, I know, but I’m still not used to it.” Kris sighed.

“It’s probably a huge different to your mother’s place.” Alex pointed out. Kris watched up surprised. She didn’t tell anyone about her former home or that Jon Bon Jovi was her father.

Alex blushed lightly. “Uhm, well…you look a lot like Jon, but doesn’t share any features with Dorothea…so I thought….uhm….”

Kris smiled lightly. “It’s ok Alex. You are right, he’s my father and…” she hesitated shortly and took a deep breath “…and it’s more than a million times better than with my mother.” It was harder to say it out loud than she thought.

Alex only nodded. An uncomfortable silence appeared when both girls didn’t know how to deal with this situation.

Kris sighed. “So, uhm...tell me what’s going on at school right now.”

Alex jumped thankfully on the idea of a subject change. “Well, one of the bands is looking for a new singer.” She said relieved.

“How come?” Kris asked.

“Well, the girl, Sarah, who was singing with them moved away last month. They thought they could do it without her, letting Steve and Daniel sing, but it seems somehow it’s not working.”

“Do you think they’ll find someone?”

“Eric said they all don’t think so, cause this time they also want the singer to play at least guitar. It seems there are a lot of songs for which a second guitar is needed.” Alex explained.

“Eric?” Kris asked.

“Uhm, yeah…he…he is playing bass…you know.” Alex stuttered flushing lightly.

Kris grinned. “So, you and Eric are…”

“NO! ...I mean…uhm…no.” Alex looked at her shocked.

“Ok, ok, calm down…” Kris held up her hands defensively, Alex relaxed. “…but you…uhm…like him, right?”

Alex looked at her, biting nervously on her bottom lip and nodded.

“Good…and what about him?

Alex sighed. “Don’t know…they always hang out together it’s not easy to meet him when he’s alone and he’s not talking a lot, more the calm type of guy, you know, especially when Steve and Daniel are around.”

Kris nodded. Yeah, she already met Steve and Daniel. Rumors were that Steve would fuck everything that wasn’t on a tree at three and Daniel…well, it seemed he’d never been together with a girl …she didn’t hear any girl at school saying something about him, except that he’s a great piano player. Actually some were saying that he and Michael were an item.

“Are they doing something like an audition?” Kris asked casually.

Alex head snapped up. “You wanna do it?”

“Yeah, why not?” Kris shrugged her shoulders.

“But you need to play guitar!” Alex pointed out.

Kris smiled. “I can play guitar and piano…and when I practice a bit in the next days…”

“It’s in two weeks on Wednesday…oh, that’s great…I’m sure they’ll take you…” She was all excited.

Kris laughed. “You never heard me play or sing. How do you know?”

“It’s in your genes!” Alex said grinning and Kris looked at her surprised and went silent in the next second. Could that be true?

Alex watched her worried. Did she say too much?

Right in that moment Dot showed up in the doorframe. “How about some hot chocolate, girls?”

The girls only nodded yes. Dot looked at them a bit worried and hoped everything was fine; they had fallen into silent so suddenly. “Ok, I’ll bring it to you in a minute.”

“Ok, thanks Mo…uhm…Dot.” Kris corrected herself quickly. Dot looked back at her surprised.

“I’m…uhm…” Kris stuttered with a flushed face.

Dot walked over to her and hugged her. “It’s ok, baby. You can call me mom if you want to”
