The next weekend Jon decided to take Kris shopping. It was really getting cold now and with those few clothes she had, she would be sick again in less than a week.
“Wanna drive?” Jon asked when they left the house and held the keys out to her.
“Uhm, I don’t have a license.” Kris said.
“You don’t have a license?” Jon was surprised.
“Well, you have to be eighteen in Germany to get your driver license.” She explained.
“Oh, well then I know what we will do the next weekends.” He said smiling. Kris paled slightly. She wasn’t really eager to drive. Somehow she doubted that she could handle a car.
“See, it’s not that difficult.” Jon said when he turned off the ignition in the parking lot of the mall.
Kris nodded. “It’s a good thing that I will not have to change gears.” Jon only laughed.
He led her through the mall and entered a huge store. “They have everything here…winter clothes, summer clothes, shoes…everything.” Kris nodded overwhelmed by the size of the store.
“Where do we start?” she asked unsure.
“Wait a second.” He waved and an older sales woman approached them.
“Jon. Nice to see you again.” She shook his hand.
“Hi Lisa.” He smiled. “This is my daughter Kris.” If the woman was surprised she didn’t show it, but greeted Kris warmly.
“I think we need some help. Actually we need everything….Wait Dot made a list.” Lisa laughed when he searched the pockets of his jacket.
“Ah, here it is.” Kris looked at the list and gasped. “Wow, seems she covered everything.”
“Well, sweetie you need some basics.” Jon said smiling.
“Basics?” She took the list and read out loud.
“Underwear, well ok, bikini, bathing suit, beach dress, beach outfit, Jeans (six), other trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses (elegant too), tops, t-shirts, hoodies, pullovers, turtleneck, blouses…” Kris grimaced. “… light jackets, heavy winter coat, socks, ski underwear, boots, sneakers, flip flops, high heels, for what?, accessories, bags and jewellery…you call that basics?” she asked rather shocked.
“Well, yeah.” Lisa smiled and took the list from her. “How about we start with pullovers over there…” she asked and pointed out one section “…and then work our way to the jeans and other stuff?”
“Sounds good.” Jon said.
“Perfect. What’s your size?” She asked Kris and eyed her up and down.
“An eight or maybe better a six, with this slight build.” Lisa answered her own question and rushed off to show Kris different pullovers. Jon grinned.
“Take a look around Kris, pick what you like.” Jon encouraged his daughter when she wasn’t moving at all. She nodded and walked around the tables and stands of clothes.
Hesitant she picked out a black turtle neck. She bit her bottom lip. She always wanted a black turtle neck. Jon watched her carefully. He hadn’t forget what she said when she arrived I don’t need anything.
“What’s wrong, sweetie?” he asked when she put the turtle neck back.
“Uhm, can’t we go somewhere else?” she asked nervous.
“Why? Don’t you like the stuff here? I saw a lot of kids your age here.” Jon was surprised.
“No, I like it…it’s just…uhm…” she stuttered and fiddled with the price tag. Suddenly it hit him; she was worried about the prices.
“Kris, come here a second.” He pulled her with him to a couch which was placed close to the changing rooms.
“Sweetie, you don’t have to worry about prices, just pick what you like. Ok?” He tried to assure her.
“But with all of the stuff on the list…” Kris started. Jon held up his hands. He sighed. How should he explain it to her?
“Listen, it’s really nice that you don’t take money for granted and believe me I will not spoil you rotten with...I don’t know a new car, mobile phones and shopping trips like this every week, but you need something to wear and it’s not too expensive here.” Kris still didn’t look convinced.
Jon sighed. “Ok, what do you think? How much money do I make when we tour?” Kris shrugged her shoulders. Jon whispered it into her ear and Kris looked at him shocked.
“And that was only the last Tour. The other Tours, Record sales, movies, merchandise…all that goes on top. And even though we bought the house, we still have enough money, sweetie. You don’t have to worry about it. Even when you buy everything here…you wouldn’t be able to spend all the money.”
Kris blushed and bowed her head. “I’m so stupid.” She whispered.
“Aww, sweetie you ain’t.” Jon pulled her in his arms. Shocked he realised that she was sobbing.
“Kris?...Look at me sweetie.” He pushed her back lightly. She wiped away the tears. “Kris, you ain’t stupid. You simply had to save money all your life. It’s only normal that you still wanna do it.” She nodded lightly.
Jon kissed her forehead. “How about we get that black turtle neck and then check out what Lisa already brought into the changing room for you?”
“Ok.” She whispered and stood up.
**********************************
Five hours and hundreds of clothes changes later, Kris sank exhausted onto a chair in the food corner of the mall.
She still couldn’t believe what they all bought and she doubt that she’ll ever wear all the different pullovers, shirts and jeans’, but she knew better than to fight with Jon.
“So, what would you like to eat? We need to refill our power, so we can continue.” Jon said.
“Continue?” She looked at him shocked. Didn’t they just spend enough money? She nearly collapsed when she saw how much Jon had to pay, but he didn’t flinch at all.
“Yeah, I thought we check out the guitar store over there.” He pointed at a music store. “You really need a stand for yours.” He said smiling.
“Oh,…ok…but I need a coffee first.” She groaned. Jon laughed.
“Ok, I need one too. What can I get you to eat?” he asked again.
“Pasta?” she asked with a hopeful smile.
He grinned and kissed her head, “That’s my girl.”
They continued their walk through the mall after their lunch and bought a guitar stand, some make-up and a stereo for Kris. Even though Jon really had to fight for it.
“I don’t need a stereo. You have a complete sound system in the house.” Kris tried to tell him.
“You wanna run down all the way to the living room everytime you wanna listen to one of your albums?” Jon asked. Kris sighed deeply.
“I thought so.” Jon said grinning triumphantly and bought the stereo.
On the way back to the car, they came across a store with stuffed animals. Kris grabbed his hand and pulled closer to the huge windows.
“Oh, look…ain’t they cute. They look so real.” Kris was all excited. Jon watched her fascinated. Seems the little girl was still somewhere in there.
“Can we go inside?” she asked with pleading eyes and looking so much like Steph in that moment.
“Sure.” Jon said and she literally dragged him into the store. Walking around, she spotted a small Dolphin and a parrot.
“JON!” she screamed. He spun around thinking something was wrong, but she only showed him the small animals. He shook his head.
“Can we get them for Steph and Jesse?” she waved with the animals in front of his face.
“Sure sweetie. You wanna pick one for you too?” he asked when he took the stuffed animals to the check out. Fortunately they were alone in the store and no one was bothering them, so Kris could stroll through the store slowly.
“Don’t know…they are all so cute.” She squeezed the nose of an oversized horse. Jon smiled. It was just so damn sweet how she was all excited about stuffed animals. He wondered what else she missed as a kid. His expression became sad for a minute when he’d only known about her earlier. We will catch up on everything she missed. Somehow he had to squeeze it in between promotion and the new Tour.
He watched her standing in front of a huge black panther who was sitting on a shelf. Her hands were running through the soft black coat and she couldn’t take her eyes of it. Then she read the price tag and pulled away. Jon sighed. Will she ever understand it?
Kris joined him at the check out. “Did you find something?” he asked. Kris shook her head no, but didn’t look at him. He frowned.
“Sweetie, can you do me a favor and get me another coffee from over there? I need another one before we drive home.” She nodded and walked over to the stand after he handed her some money. Then he turned to the clerk.
“Could you show me the black panther over there, please?”

Chapter nineteen
Jon turned off the engine and sighed. He had just dropped Alex off at home. The girls nearly worked the whole day and Dot had to tell them twice that the dinner was ready before they finally showed up in the kitchen. When Kris was in working-mode, she was worse then him. Shaking his head he jogged his way to the door. It was getting really cold and he forgot his jacket.
When he entered the house everything was dark. He frowned. He’d hoped Dot would be waiting for him, but it seemed that she went already to bed. He sighed again and went upstairs, checking on Steph and Jesse again, he stopped before he opened Kris’ door.
She’s sixteen. He would have killed his parents when they would have checked on him at this age. He listened concentrated, but couldn’t hear anything in her room. She’s probably sleeping. When he left with Alex, she was rather exhausted.
Sighing deeply, he turned around and walked to his bedroom. When he opened the door he stopped dead.
“What the…?” he stuttered. The room was dark, only some candles were giving some light, soft music was waving through the room and in the middle of the room his wife was sitting on a chair, looking at him expectant.
“Hi, honey.” She said in sultry voice and rose from the chair. Jon gulped and closed the door behind him, turning the lock. Dot smiled.
“I have a little surprise for you.” Dot said while walking slowly towards him.
He groaned. “Please don’t tell me the guys will show up in a minute.”
Dot laughed. “No honey, tonight it’s just you and me.”
“Good…I can’t wait to get my hands on you.” He step forward and grabbed her by her waist pulling her against him. But she pulled back. Jon looked at her questioningly.
“I’ve planned something, don’t ruin my surprise…” she said pouting playfully.
Jon growled low in his throat and bent down to kiss her gorgeous lips.
“Ok, baby…what’s my surprise?” he asked. She smiled.
“Come over here, honey, sit down on the chair.” He sat down and Dot slowly unbuttoned his shirt. He grinned and let his hands run over her hips.
“Baby, why don’t you take that dressing gown out?” She looked really sexy in that full-length black and red silk gown, but he really wanted to touch her skin.
“Later, honey.” She whispered in his ear when she walked around him. Suddenly she pulled his arms on his back and he could feel her tying his wrists to the chair-back.
“Dot? What are you doing?” He tried to look at her and automatically fought against the bonding.
“Shhh, it’s ok Jonny. Trust me.” Dot whispered softly in his ear and let her hands ran over his tensed shoulders. Jon relaxed. What was he thinking? She would never hurt him!
“Are you ready for the show?” Dot asked from behind his back.
“Show?” He was confused.
“Yeah, show.” Dot walked back into his field of vision. Suddenly the first notes of “You can leave your hat on” floated through the room and Dot started dancing.
Baby, take off your coat
Standing with her back to Jon, she swayed to the music, slowly opening the silk gown.
Real slow
She shrugged the gown over her shoulders and it slide to the floor slowly. Dot watched Jon over her shoulder. His eyes were wide in surprise. She was wearing a black and red corsage with a lace string, garter belt and stockings that matched the silk gown. His mouth went try and his breathing sped up.
Take off your shoes
She bent forward and gave Jon a perfect view of her well toned ass. He groaned.
I'll take off your shoes
“Baby, please let me….” The muscles in his arms flexed as he tried to break through the bondage, but Dot tied him down way to good. She smiled and turned around watching his efforts amused.
Baby, take off your dress
Jon leaned forward when her hands started to open the hooks of the corsage. Oh, God!
Yes, yes, yes
“YES!” Dot had to smile at his comment. He acted like he’d never seen her breasts before. Absolutely amazing…
You can leave your hat on
She danced slowly towards him and ran her hands over his naked chest.
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
But she wasn’t coming close enough that he could reach on of her nipples with his mouth. He groaned in frustration, when she walked away from him again. He needed her, he wanted her! His cock was nearly breaking through his jeans.
Go over there, turn on the light
Hey, all the lights
Dot flicked on the light switch and Jon had to blink because of the sudden light.
Come over here, stand on that chair
Yeah, that's right
Standing in front of him again, Dot let her hips move seductively and ran her hands over her body.
Raise your arms up in the air
Jon’s eyes follow each arm that’s raised and sent her breasts into motion.
Now shake 'em
Jon groaned; sweat was running down his face by now, he just needed to touch her.
You give me reason to live
Dot turned her back again to Jon and sat carefully on his lap, …
You give me reason to live
letting her shoulders and long hair ran over his chest.
You give me reason to live
He moaned and she could feel his arousal.
You give me reason to live
Right in time with the music she let herself fall between Jon’s spread legs, her head resting now in his lap and her breasts bouncing lightly.
Sweet darling, (you can leave your hat on)
She got on her feet again,…
You can leave your hat on
and removed the clasps of her garter belt from the stockings.
Baby, (you can leave your hat on)
Jon’s eyes followed every single move of her with hungry eyes. He was still trying to lose the bondage.
You can leave your hat on
Slowly she rolled each stocking down her long legs…
(You can leave your hat on)
(You can leave your hat on)
and threw them at Jon, laughing lightly when he caught the second one with his mouth.
Suspicious minds are talkin'
“Do you enjoy the show?” she asked him…
They're tryin' to tear us apart
while taking the stocking from his mouth…
They don't believe in this love of mine
and letting it ran lightly over his sweaty chest. Jon shivered.
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
“Baby, please lose the bondage…I need you.” He pleaded breathless.
They don't know what love is
Dot shook her head no…
They don't know what love is
and started dancing again,…
Yeah, I know what love is
hooking her thumbs in her string…
There ain't no way
(You can leave your hat on)
and got out of it with her hips moving to the beat.
You can leave your hat on
(You can leave your hat on)
She played a bit with the string…
Give me the reason to live
(You can leave your hat on)
And danced glorious naked…
You can leave your hat on
till the song was over.
Jon watched her; he just wasn’t able to take his eyes off her. Suddenly he blinked.
“Baby, where’s your hat?”
A smile spread across her face “I already thought you wouldn’t ask.” And she dropped her hands to her sides, giving Jon a perfect view of her dark curls that hid her most intimate flesh.
Jon threw his head back and groaned. The dark curls were trimmed like a cowboy hat. He couldn’t believe it.
“Baby, lose that damn bondage…” he growled. She laughed.
“Are you sure…?” Her hands touched his chest and her mouth placed light kiss on his nipples.
“GOD! Yes, I’m sure…Dottie, please….” He was desperate by now.
Dot leant forward and undid the bondage while her breast were resting heavy against his chest. She could hear his breathing next to her ear and his cock pressing against her thigh.
He wasn’t moving a single inch till both of his hands were free, but then he grabbed her and tossed her on the bed. Dot squirreled excited. In the next second he was on top of her, covering her mouth with his, invading it, didn’t let her time to even think.
His hands were running over her body, pinching her nipples, making her body arch up from the bed, he growled low in his throat when his hands found her pussy hot and wet, before she could even react he dropped his jeans to the floor, grabbed her legs and pulled her to the edge of the bed.
Stopping shortly his gaze travelled over her heated body. She could see the hunger in his eyes and was truly amazed that it was her who turned him so on.
He lifted her legs to his shoulders and locked eyes with her. In the next second he buried himself deep inside her, making her scream when an orgasm washed over her immediately. He waited till the waves subsided and then started pumping into her terrible fast.
Dot moaned loudly her head was tossing from one side to the other, her fingers clenched into the sheets while her hips were moving in the same rhythm like Jon’s. Through clouded eyes she watched her husband, watched the sweat running down his face and down the gorgeous chest, watched his flexed arm muscles, which were holding her legs in place, watched his eyes darken with every single stroke. She could feel the next orgasm coming up and stretched out her arms.
“Jon, please…”
He dropped her legs to his waist and moved her further up the bed till he was on top of her. Sucking her breast he made her come the second time and with her walls clenching down on him so strongly, he followed her soon.
When he entered the house everything was dark. He frowned. He’d hoped Dot would be waiting for him, but it seemed that she went already to bed. He sighed again and went upstairs, checking on Steph and Jesse again, he stopped before he opened Kris’ door.

Chapter eighteen
After another five days Kris was finally feeling normal again. She still got tired really fast and Doc Miller asked her not to do sports in the next two weeks, but besides that she was fine.
Well, maybe except the fact that Jon was following her like an overprotective clucking hen. He was worried that she could feel dizzy again like she had when she was walking downstairs the first day she got up. Dot tried her best to make him see that he was overreacting, but it wasn’t really working. Kris was more than thankful that she could go to school again on Monday.
But before she could do that, she had to work herself with Alex’ help through all the homework and stuff she missed in the last ten days. What a joy! At least Jon would leave her alone for a while. She chuckled. He didn’t know it by now though, but Dot had a little plan to make him leave the house.
Shortly after 10 am Alex and her mother showed up. Alex had tried to assure her mother that it wasn’t necessary to drop her off, but her mother told her she wanted to get to know the family where her daughter would spend the next several hours. Rockstar or not, she wouldn’t leave her there without checking them out.
Alex rolled her eyes and as soon as she had greeted Jon and Dot, Kris and she vanished into the dining room. The adults only shook their heads. Teenagers!
“I told Alex to give me a call when they are ready, so I can pick her up again.” Alex’s mother said.
“How about we drive her back when the girls are finished? Who knows when they are done and it’s already snowing so strongly again, I would feel bad to make you come back.” Jon suggested.
Dot smiled. She knew he was only offering that, because Alex’ mother didn’t freak out when he opened the door.
“Really? Oh, that would be great! You know I have three other kids at home and I’m afraid they...” Her cell phone rang. “Excuse me…”
“No problem.” Jon assured her.
“Ah, when you talk out the devil…” she smirked. “What’s wrong?” she asked instead of a greeting. She listened to an annoyed sounding voice for a second.
“Andy! Stop it! You have all the afternoon off when I’m home again…” She listened to her son again. “Ok, ok…just don’t burn the house down…I’ll be there in 15 minutes…oh, you will have those 15 minutes Mister, because otherwise you won’t have 48 hours of weekend…See, I thought so! See you soon.” She closed her cell and sighed.
“Take my advice, never ever four kids…they are lovely, but they’ll kill you.” She advised Dot, before she left in her car, who could only laugh.
When Dot turned around she could see Jon walking towards the dining room.
“Jon? What do you think you are doing there?” she asked with her hands on her hips.
“I’m…just…I’m…” he stuttered.
Dot put her arms around his neck. “She’s fine. I will check on them and I’m sure Alex would call us immediately when Kris doesn’t feel well.”
Jon sighed. “But...” Dot put her index finger on his lips and stopped him.
“No, buts!...Besides you have to work.” She pointed out.
“What are you talking about?” he asked her confused.
Dot took his hand and pulled him into the living room.
“Ah, there he is! Can we start now? I have already withdrawals.” David greeted him.
“What are you doing here?” he stared at his friends and bandmates in disbelieve.
“Well, your Mrs thought it’s time for you to work again.” Richie answered and gave Dot a peck on her cheek. She smiled.
Jon pouted. “But Kris, she…”
“JON! Don’t make me angry.” Dot said strictly.
Before he could open his mouth again, a strong hand was placed on his shoulder and Tico whispered in a low voice “Come on Jonny, you know she’s right.” And pulled Jon towards the patio doors. Jon growled slightly, but followed his drummer.
“Have a good day, honey.” Dot said laughing and blew him a kiss when he looked back at her, still pouting.
“You are great, you know that, right?” David asked her chuckling before following the others.
“Yeah, I know.” She said laughing and closed the door behind him.
*******************************************
While Dot was getting Jon out of the house, Kris and Alex were talking in the dining room and spread out all the papers on the huge table.
“This is really a great place, Kris. And your parents seem to be really nice.” Alex said while looking through a pile of papers.
“Yeah, I know, but I’m still not used to it.” Kris sighed.
“It’s probably a huge different to your mother’s place.” Alex pointed out. Kris watched up surprised. She didn’t tell anyone about her former home or that Jon Bon Jovi was her father.
Alex blushed lightly. “Uhm, well…you look a lot like Jon, but doesn’t share any features with Dorothea…so I thought….uhm….”
Kris smiled lightly. “It’s ok Alex. You are right, he’s my father and…” she hesitated shortly and took a deep breath “…and it’s more than a million times better than with my mother.” It was harder to say it out loud than she thought.
Alex only nodded. An uncomfortable silence appeared when both girls didn’t know how to deal with this situation.
Kris sighed. “So, uhm...tell me what’s going on at school right now.”
Alex jumped thankfully on the idea of a subject change. “Well, one of the bands is looking for a new singer.” She said relieved.
“How come?” Kris asked.
“Well, the girl, Sarah, who was singing with them moved away last month. They thought they could do it without her, letting Steve and Daniel sing, but it seems somehow it’s not working.”
“Do you think they’ll find someone?”
“Eric said they all don’t think so, cause this time they also want the singer to play at least guitar. It seems there are a lot of songs for which a second guitar is needed.” Alex explained.
“Eric?” Kris asked.
“Uhm, yeah…he…he is playing bass…you know.” Alex stuttered flushing lightly.
Kris grinned. “So, you and Eric are…”
“NO! ...I mean…uhm…no.” Alex looked at her shocked.
“Ok, ok, calm down…” Kris held up her hands defensively, Alex relaxed. “…but you…uhm…like him, right?”
Alex looked at her, biting nervously on her bottom lip and nodded.
“Good…and what about him?
Alex sighed. “Don’t know…they always hang out together it’s not easy to meet him when he’s alone and he’s not talking a lot, more the calm type of guy, you know, especially when Steve and Daniel are around.”
Kris nodded. Yeah, she already met Steve and Daniel. Rumors were that Steve would fuck everything that wasn’t on a tree at three and Daniel…well, it seemed he’d never been together with a girl …she didn’t hear any girl at school saying something about him, except that he’s a great piano player. Actually some were saying that he and Michael were an item.
“Are they doing something like an audition?” Kris asked casually.
Alex head snapped up. “You wanna do it?”
“Yeah, why not?” Kris shrugged her shoulders.
“But you need to play guitar!” Alex pointed out.
Kris smiled. “I can play guitar and piano…and when I practice a bit in the next days…”
“It’s in two weeks on Wednesday…oh, that’s great…I’m sure they’ll take you…” She was all excited.
Kris laughed. “You never heard me play or sing. How do you know?”
“It’s in your genes!” Alex said grinning and Kris looked at her surprised and went silent in the next second. Could that be true?
Alex watched her worried. Did she say too much?
Right in that moment Dot showed up in the doorframe. “How about some hot chocolate, girls?”
The girls only nodded yes. Dot looked at them a bit worried and hoped everything was fine; they had fallen into silent so suddenly. “Ok, I’ll bring it to you in a minute.”
“Ok, thanks Mo…uhm…Dot.” Kris corrected herself quickly. Dot looked back at her surprised.
“I’m…uhm…” Kris stuttered with a flushed face.
Dot walked over to her and hugged her. “It’s ok, baby. You can call me mom if you want to”
Well, maybe except the fact that Jon was following her like an overprotective clucking hen.

Chapter seventeen
Carefully Dot opened the door to Kris’ room. She shook her head smiling lightly at her sleeping husband. For five days now he was sitting in that armchair next to his daughter’s bed. He was even sleeping there, wouldn’t leave her a single minute out of his sight.
“Jon.” Dot put her hand softly on his right shoulder.
“What? What’s wrong?” he nearly jumped out of the armchair.
“Nothing’s wrong, she’s sleeping…” Dot calmed him watching the steady breathing of the pale girl in bed.
Jon sank back into the armchair and sighed relieved. “Thank God.”
Dot watched her husband and she had to admit he didn’t look like a Rockstar at all right now. If his fans would see him now…not shaved, red tired eyes and most importantly smelling. “Jon, you really need to take a shower!”
“I promised not to leave her alone.” Jon said while rubbing his tired eyes and stretching his aching back.
“You ain’t leaving her alone, you just take a shower. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it when she’ll wake up.” Dot said with lightly wrinkled nose.
“What do you mean?” Jon was confused.
“Jon, you stink!...Remember the time after the New Jersey Tour? Only the alcoholic smell is missing…”
Jon raised his arm and sniffed. “Oh…” he grimaced. “Maybe you are right.”
“Go take a shower, shave, and put some clean clothes on. I stay with her. I call you immediately when she wakes up.” Dot pushed him softly towards the door.
Shuffling Jon walked to their bedroom door. “Oh, and Jon...” he turned around. “…when you come out of the bathroom and you’ve brushed your teeth, take a bite of that sandwich.” He looked through the open door and saw a sandwich set on the table next to the small couch.
He grinned. “You are the best, Dotty.”
She smiled. “I know!” and walked back into Kris’ room.
She knew he would never ever go downstairs. The last five days she brought him his meals to Kris’ room. He promised not to leave her, so he wouldn’t leave her. Dot shook her head lightly. Does she know how much he loves her? He would do the same for Steph, Jesse and her, no question about it, but the bonding between Jon and Kris was so fast…it’s unbelievable.
Gently Dot put a hand on Kris’ forehead. The temperature was finally going down. She was breezing much easier already in the last two days, but the fever wouldn’t go away. They were close to bringing her to the hospital, but were hesitant because of her fear of doctors. Jon was sure she would freak out when she would wake up in a hospital. So Doc Miller prescribed her an additional medication and finally things got better.
Luckily her blood test was negative; no virus had taken over and more importantly she didn’t have hepatitis or HIV, well that’s what the rapid test said. They had to wait a little longer for the final results. Seems that in all those years she was able to avoid the needles of her mom; especially for a small curious kid a miracle.
Doc Miller assumed that the bronchitis came so suddenly, because her stress was gone after she told them about her mother. She finally allowed her body to relax and got sick. But hopefully things would be better soon.
Nevertheless Kris was still sleeping nearly the whole day. Dot and Jon had problems waking her up when it was time for her medicine and to get her drink some water. She didn’t eat in the last five days and Dot hoped that she would wake up soon, because otherwise they needed to worry about her loosing so much weight. You could already see it in her face. This stupid cold cost her all her strength.
Richie, David, Tico and Hugh were there yesterday. They thought they would cheer her up a bit. David was already warming up downstairs, but Dot had to stop them. They all were shocked when they saw her lying completely exhausted, pale and with labored breathing in her bed. Dot wasn’t even sure Kris realized that the guys were there. She barely opened her eyes or reacted to the band’s voices.
Shortly before Richie left he asked Dot to call him everyday so he’d know how she’s doing. Dot could see that he was really shocked about her condition. She smiled. It seems that she already touched his heart as well.
Kris moved slightly, something she hadn’t done in the last days. Maybe she would wake up this afternoon…and hopefully hungry. Dot cooked a consommé yesterday and hoped it would help her to get her power back.
“The fever is going down, right?” Jon asked from the door, his hair still wet from the shower and the last bite of the sandwich still in his hand, but he had shaved and changed into fresh clothes.
“Yeah, finally. I think she’ll maybe wake up later. She really needs to eat something.” Dot answered.
Jon nodded. “Yeah, you are right. Uhm…did we inform the school btw?”
Dot grinned at him. “I called and told them what’s going on.”
“Thanks, darling.” Jon kissed her softly.
“Oh, and a girl…Alex…calls everyday to ask how Kris is doing and she told me that she’ll collect all the papers at school and when Kris is feeling better again, she wants to come over and give them to her and help her. Seems they have the same classes.” Dot told him.
“So, she really found a friend.” Jon asked surprised.
“Well, I’m not sure she knows about her friend yet.” Dot smirked.
Jon looked at her confused.
“Alex said something like ‘I know she doesn’t want help, but I really think she needs it now and I will not go away before she sees that.’” Dot chuckled.
“Wow, seems she can be really persistent.” Jon replied.
“Well, she has to be, she’s going up against the Bongiovi stubbornness.” Dot said still chuckling.
Jon looked at her and frowned slightly, then sighed. Maybe she’s right. He placed a soft kiss on Kris cheek and sat down in the armchair again.
****************************************
“Jon?” Kris sat up slowly.
“Hey, sweetie. You are awake. How are you feeling?” Jon asked concerned and happy at the same time.
“I’m fine I guess…nothing’s spinning anymore. Did you sit here the whole day?” She asked surprised.
“Nope...the last five days.” He replied with a smirk.
“WHAT?” Kris was shocked. “Why?”
Jon sat down next to her on the bed and hugged her. “Because you are my daughter, you were really sick and I promised not to leave you alone.”
Kris just stared at him. He really did that. Tears started running down her cheeks. Nobody ever did something like that for her.
“Aww, sweetie…it’s ok.” Jon kissed her forehead and wiped the tears away. “Hm, that’s my job…” He added smiling.
“Thank you.” Kris snuggled close to him and rested her head on his left shoulder. Jon shook his head. She still had problems to understand all that. Hopefully she would learn to count on him and the family in the next couple month. One thing was for sure, she would never be alone again with her problems.
“So, how about something to eat?” he asked still holding her in his arms.
“Uhm…I don’t know...” she wasn’t really hungry. “How about a shower?” she had the feeling her clothes were sticking to her and that she didn’t smell so nice.
“Well, I don’t think that’s a good idea. Your temperature is not back to normal already, we shouldn’t risk it to get higher again.” Jon replied. Kris sighed. “One more day, sweetie, ok?” She nodded.
“So, do you want something special to eat?” he asked again.
“I’m not really hungry.” Kris said and looked up at him.
“You have to eat something to get your strength back, sweetie.” Jon told her with a stern look on his face.
She sighed. “Maybe you are right.” He nodded.
“I go downstairs and tell Dot that you are awake. She already prepared something for you.”
“How did she know I would wake up?” Kris asked surprised.
“Mother instincts, I guess.” Jon said smiling before he left the room.
Mother instincts? But she wasn’t her mother. Well, actually Dot was more a mother for her than her REAL mother ever was. I need to think about it.
“Jon.” Dot put her hand softly on his right shoulder.
“What? What’s wrong?” he nearly jumped out of the armchair.

Chapter sixteen
Jon yawned while walking down the stairs. God, he was so tired. But who would expect that the BBQ would take so long last night. Well, actually he was only half of the time with his guests. He just wasn’t able to wake Kris when she felt asleep in his arms. She looked so peaceful, he just couldn’t wake her. It didn’t matter that he could hear his family and friends outside or that he was getting hungry. The only thing that matter was this beautiful blond girl in his arms, who finally trusted him.
He shook his head. She was a bit embarrassed that she felt asleep when she woke up, but for him it was the most beautiful thing in the world. He loved to watch his kids sleep. When Steph and Jesse were still babies, he could sit for hours beside their beds and watch them. Dot always had to come and more or less drag him to bed.
When Jon and Kris entered the tent everybody was looking at them. And Jon could see that Kris again wasn’t comfortable with this attention. But before he could say something Jesse jumped up and ran to his older sister.
“Kris, come over there. Steph and I made sure there’s a free seat for you.” The little boy grabbed her hand and pulled Kris along with him. “You have to taste the burgers, they are great….And Mommy said we can have marshmallows later.” He looked at her all excited.
Jon laughed and looked at Dot. “How much of the lemonade did he already have?”
Dot grinned. “Two glasses…and it’s your job to get him to bed today!” The other adults in the room chuckled about Jon’s shocked face.
Yeah, it wasn’t easy to get his son to sleep last night. Jon yawned again and rubbed his face. Hopefully Jesse and Steph won’t fall asleep today at school.
“Good morning.” he greeted his family when he entered the kitchen.
“Morning, darling.” Dot turned around and gave him a quick kiss. She was busy preparing the kids’ lunchboxes.
“ ‘ning.” Steph and Jesse mumbled while eating their cereals. They were still tired.
“Where’s Kris?” Jon asked while giving his two little ones a kiss.
“Still upstairs. She was in the bathroom when I knocked at her door.” Dot replied cutting an apple in small pieces.
Jon glanced at his watch. “It’s getting late.”
“Yeah, I know.” Dot put a coffee mug in his hand. “Give her some more minutes before you go upstairs.” Jon smirked.
A couple minutes later Kris entered the kitchen. She felt like shit. She was sweating like hell, but cold at the same time, pale like a wall and could barely breathe. Coughing she leaned against the door frame and groaned. Everything was spinning.
Jon put his coffee mug down and walked over to her. “Sweetie, are you ok?” he asked worried and touched her forehead. Kris’s only answer was another coughing. It sounded like a car with motor problems.
“Jeez. You are hot!…Sweetie, look at me, please.” Jon softly touched her chin so he could look into her eyes. She could barely open them. Coughing again she leaned strongly against him. Jon could feel her trembling.
“Ok, that’s it! You stay at home.” He said and picked her up. “Come on, I’ll bring you back to bed.” Dot nodded.
“I’ll call Dr. Miller and bring the kids to school.”
“No…” Kris whispered while breathing heavily. “No, doctor…” Tears were filling her eyes immediately and she tried to get on her feet again.
“Shhh. It’s ok sweetie. I stay with you…you don’t have to be afraid.” Jon tightened his grip on her. He could feel her trembling stronger…she’s really scared, he thought.
I really hate doctors, she said yesterday. But why? What happened that a sixteen year old girl was so scared of doctors?
“I won’t leave you alone, sweetie…it’s ok…shhh…..don’t cry, Kris.” He smoothed her all the way upstairs and was glad that she pressed herself stronger against him and seemed to calm down.
Carefully Jon laid her down on her bed. Kris breathing seemed to be more labored from minute to minute. He ran over to one of the guest rooms and grabbed a couple of pillows. Back in Kris’ room he put them behind her back, so she was nearly sitting.
“Better?” he asked. She nodded, her breathing still labored, but it was easier for her now.
Sweat was running down her flushed face. Jon touched her hand softly. “Kris?” She opened her eyes and tried to focus on him. He moved his hands to the waistband of her jeans. “Ok?” he asked. She nodded.
He pulled her jeans down and realized that it was soaked with sweat. Shit, how high was her temperature? Grabbing her sleep shirt he frowned when feeling that it was as wet as her jeans. Walking into her closet he realized that she didn’t have anything else to wear right now. We really need to buy her more clothes he thought and ran over to his bedroom to grab one of his NY Giants shirts. It would be big enough.
Walking back into her room he could see her shivering. “Cold, sweetie?” he asked. She nodded coughing.
“Ok, come here. I’ll help to change into the shirt…” He propped her up slowly. Kris moaned. Everything was spinning. “…can you raise your arms, sweetie?” Gently he pulled her pullover over her half raised arms. Shit! Bra…how? He frowned. This was ridiculous, but he didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable.
Her body slumped against his. She just didn’t have to power to sit straight anymore. Fast he opened the clasp of her bra and pushed the straps over her shoulders. Grabbing her right hand, he pressed it between her breasts, so she held her bra in place. He pushed his shirt over her head and let it fall to her knees. When she took her hand away the bra felt down in her lap. Jon smiled proudly. It worked.
“You are way too complicated.” Kris whispered when Jon laid her back into the pillows. He kissed her cheek and put the thermometer in her mouth. “I know, sweetie.”
A couple minutes later Dot walked in. “Are you already back, darling?” Jon asked surprised. He didn’t realize how long it took him to settle Kris down. She nodded.
“How high is her temperature?” Dot asked concerned.
“We will know in a minute.” Jon said. Kris handed him the thermometer back with trembling hands.
“Shit!” Jon said. Dot looked over his shoulder. “39.9 °C (103.8 °F)” Jon added. Dot was already on the way to the bathroom.
“Dr. Miller said we should not give her any medication before he’s here. It could hide the symptoms.” She carefully put a cold washcloth on Kris’ forehead. Jon frowned.
“And when will he be here?” he didn’t like the idea of his daughter suffering and the fever was way too high. That could be really dangerous.
The next second the doorbell rang. “There he is.” Dot said and walked downstairs to let him in.
“I don’t need a doctor.” Kris whispered. Jon looked at her. He could see panic in her eyes.
“Sweetie, you do need a doctor.” She shook her head vehemently. “Yes, you do, sweetie…” He ran his hand through her sweaty hair. “…I’ll stay with you…ok?…you don’t have to be afraid….he’s a real nice guy. Steph and Jesse like him a lot. You really don’t have to be afraid.” Jon could see that his smoothing wasn’t really working. Kris looked like she wanted to jump up and run away. Why was she so scared?
“Good morning, Jon.” Dr. Miller said walking through the door his small silver suitcase in his hand. He was mid forty already a bit of grey in his dark hair, glasses on his nose and behind them always calm and twinkling eyes. He was a very relaxed person. Even Steph biting him or Jesse kicking him in his balls didn’t make him swear or losing his temper. He was always gentle and patient with his patients, especially with kids.
He could see the minute he walked in that the young woman in bed was scared. It seemed that Dorothea was right, a bad experience with a doctor probably when she was a young girl. He would have to be very patient with her, but also careful. Fear is a powerful emotion that could let people do things they never thought of before. He really didn’t want to get hurt today and that only would make her feel worse.
“Hey, doc. Thanks for coming so fast.” Jon shook his hand.
“No problem.” He turned to Kris. “And you are Kris?” She just stared at him; tears were running down her face. She was deeply scared. “It’s ok…sweetheart. I’m sure we will get along.” He patted her hand. Kris moved it away immediately.
Jon looked at Dot worried. How the hell should he examine her if she wouldn’t let him touch her? But the doc seemed relaxed and smiled at Kris.
“How high is her temperature?” he asked.
“39.9°C” Jon answered.
“Ok….Kris, would it be ok for you if I auscultate you?” He opened his bag and took out his stethoscope. “You know this, right?” He showed it to her. “It won’t hurt.”
Kris nodded slightly. “Come here, sweetie. I’ll help you sit up.” Jon sat down next to her and steadied her. He could feel Kris trembling and ran his hand softly through her hair. Kissing her cheek he asked “Ok?”
She only looked at him; the fear still present in her eyes. When Doc Miller gently put the stethoscope on her back she winced and her breathing sped up. The doc met Jon’s eyes over Kris’ shoulder. He was concerned; it seemed that she expected pain.
“Could you cough please Kris?” He asked softly. Kris did and was barely able to stop again. Still panting for air Jon let her sink into the pillows again. The doc sat down on the bed and looked at her.
“Are you in pain? Does anything hurt?” He asked. Kris shook her head no, only the coughing hurt a bit and she felt dizzy.
“Would you let me touch your throat?” Trembling Kris closed her eyes and put her head in the neck. Jon softly caressed her right hand.
“Ok, thanks.” He smiled at her. Turning to Jon and Dot he said. “Her tonsils aren’t swollen; I think she has a real bad cold which also influenced her bronchia. That’s why she is breathing so heavily and has fever. I will prescribe you some medication and will check on her the day after tomorrow again. If it’s not getting better or worse you can call me before, of course.”
He handed Dot the prescription and looked at Kris apologetic. “Nevertheless I would like to take a blood sample to make sure that she doesn’t have something else that’s only covered by the cold. That could be very dangerous especially at the respiratory tracts.”
“Ok.” Jon nodded.
“I go and get the medicine.” Dot said and walked out. They needed something to bring the fever down as fast as possible.
Kris just looked at them shocked. No, please…no blood sample. While the doc took the necessary items out of his suitcase, she tried to get off the bed.
“Kris?” Jon watched her confused. She seemed to activate all her remaining strength to get out of the bed. He walked over to her and tried to push her back into the pillows, but she defended oneself against him. Jon was shocked. He’d never expected that.
“Sweetie? Shhh….it’s ok….shhhh.” Jon tried to calm her.
“I don’t want that.” She said sobbing.
Jon pulled her into his arms and cradled her softly. “Oh, sweetie, I don’t like it either, but it’s necessary. And I’m here…yeah?” She only started sobbing stronger.
Doc Miller watched the interaction between father and daughter. It was obvious that she was close to panic and Jon wasn’t just ignoring that and forcing her to lie down like he had seen it a lot in his carrier.
Something caused her fear and he really wanted to know what. Maybe?…she was hiding especially her right arm…maybe that was the answer to her fear.
“Kris…” she winched and didn’t look at him. “Kris…here look I have no syringe in my hands, come on sweetheart turn around.” She slowly released her grip on Jon’s shoulders. “See?” He wiggled his hands. Kris smiled sniffing.
“Can I have a look at your right arm?” he could see her tense. “I just want to look, I don’t want to take the sample there…just a look.” He added.
Hesitant Kris stretched out her arm. When Jon pushed the way too long sleeves up her arm a 3 inch scar right in her crook of the arm became visible. Jon gasped. It never caught his eye. The doc carefully ran his fingers over the scar. It was increased and hard.
“That did hurt!” he said. Kris nodded sobbing.
“How old have you been?” he asked.
“Nearly six.” She whispered. Jon closed his eyes. How could you let your six year old girl alone at the doctor? He would never ever let Steph or Jesse alone, they were only so calm because Dot or he are there. They knew nothing bad could happen as long as Mommy and Daddy were there.
Turning to Jon the doc explained “Those scars happen when you aren’t carefully while taking blood samples….and it’s painful.” Jon clenched his teeth. That’s why she’s so scared.
The doc softly caressed her cheek “I’m sorry, Kris. I’ll give you a salve so it won’t arch anymore, but it will never go away completely. I promise to be very careful…ok?”
Tears ran again down her face. “I can’t control it.” She whispered.
“I know. It’s not easy to control such a fear….You can do what ever you want to. You can scream, you can kick or call me names, but you have to keep your arm …” he patted her left arm. “…still.”
She nodded and let herself sink back into the pillows. Jon kissed her forehead. “I’m here, sweetie.”
Kris reached out and pulled him down to her. She hid her face in his shoulder; actually she was curling herself into him except her left arm. She lay randomly twisted on the bed. When Jon tried to pull back while the doc put the tourniquet on her arm. Kris tightened her grip and said “No!” in a pleading voice.
“It’s ok, Jon. You can hold her like that. It’s not an encumbrance to me.” Doc Miller said. Kris calmed down a bit again.
“Ok, Kris…now it’s getting a bit cold.” The doc said. She sobbed and pressed herself stronger against Jon. He put his mouth to her left ear and whispered “I’m here, sweetie...everything will be ok, it’s over soon, you aren’t alone…no one will hurt you, I’ll protect you, sweetie…I’ll protect you!”
In the next second Kris screamed, not because it was that painful, but she was expecting it to hurt much more. All those feelings and pictures from years ago came back. All those people who were holding her down, the cold hands which were stretching her arm. She could see the blood dripping from her arm again, hear the doctor who told her it was all her fault and she could hear herself crying for her mother, but she wasn’t there.
Jon could feel her fingernails in his shoulder, but he didn’t care. He kept on whispering smoothing words in her ear.
“You are doing great, Kris…I’m nearly done, sweetheart…I’m nearly done.” Doc Miller encouraged her. She didn’t move her arm a single inch.
“So, that’s it.” As soon as he let go of her arm she pulled it close to her body and started crying uncontrollable.
The doc packed his stuff together. “I’ll find my way out, Jon. Stay with her. I’ll have the results when I check on her the next time.”
“Ok, thanks Doc.“ Jon said and watched him leaving.
After a while Kris let go off him and felt in an exhausted sleep.
Chapter fifteen
Waking up the next morning Jon could see Dot putting on her robe.
“Hey!” he pouted. She looked at him and smiled. “Good morning.”
“You know, there’s a reason why I didn’t dress you in your sleep shirt last night, darling. I had plans with you this morning.” He said still pouting.
“Aww, that’s sweet, honey, but our guests will be here soon and I still need to do some preparation.” Dot replied grinning.
“Oh, it’s not that late. Come here, baby. I need you!” To clarify his comment, he pushed the blanket down, so Dot could see his member standing in proud attention. She chuckled.
“Well, it seems that “Little Johnny” needs someone.”
“Oh, yeah” he said and started moving his hips up and down, making his penis jump.
“Jon!” Dot’s eyes grew big and she could feel the heat in her face.
“Are you flushing, Dot?” He laughed. “I can’t believe that!”
Her eyes gleamed evilly and before Jon could say anything else, she straddled him and let him slip inside her. Jon gasped a little shocked. Her eyes shined triumphantly.
“Oh, you naughty little…come here.” He growled and rolled them over. Being on top now, he started moving fast. Their tongues danced hungrily with each other and within a couple minutes they both found their release.
“Wow! What a quickie.” Jon laughed.
“Yeah, indeed.” Dot said. „And now Jon, get out and off of me!” She added, pushing with her hands at his shoulders.
His jaw dropped. “What? I think no woman ever said that to me.” But he moved.
“That’s why I AM your wife, honey!” she said and kissed his still open mouth.
“Whoa, whoa. Where are you going?” he asked.
“What does it look like Jon? To the bathroom.” She shook her head. Jon jumped out of the bed.
“Wanna shower together with me?” he asked nibbling her naked shoulder.
“NO!” she pushed him away.
“But who will wash your back?” he pouted playfully.
“I’m more than capable doing that on my own, Jon!” Dot replied and tried to walk into the bathroom.
“Oh, come on.” He tried to grab her by her waist, but before he could get a hold of her, his hands were on his back and his face was pressed against the wall. Oh, shit! Karate, I forgot.
“You stay here Jon! We don’t have time for that.” Dot said and hit his naked ass playfully before letting go of his hands.
“Oh, yeah baby. Spank me!” He said wiggling his rear end.
“Maybe another time, honey. “ Dot replied laughing and closed the bathroom door. He could hear the lock clicking. Great!…and now?
**********************************
A couple hours later they were all sitting in the living room, waiting for the huge tent to warm up. Steph and Jesse were playing outside with their cousin. Kris stood by the window and watched them with a small smile on her face. Somehow it always calmed her when she saw her siblings playing. Their innocent happiness surprised her everyday again. It could be different and she wondered more then ones how it would have been to have a peaceful childhood.
Jon could see that she wasn’t comfortable with this situation. Even though the only new faces were the ones from his brothers and their families, her uneasiness was clearly visible on her face and the fact that Carol was there didn’t help either. Fortunately she already met Tico and Hugh during the last week, when the guys were here for recording. The problem right now was that the room was loaded and she had to sit close to someone.
“Kris, I know you’ve been through a lot, but…” Jon began softly.
“NO!” Kris interrupted him and turned away from the window facing the people in the room.
“You have NO idea!” her eyes were gleaming angrily, her voice was strong. He was saying that all the time, but he had no idea…no idea at all.
“What?” Jon asked irritated.
“You have no idea what I’ve been through! You have no idea how it was to live with her every single day.” She paused briefly. “You all really should stop thinking that I’m sad because of my mother’s death. Because I AM NOT!” She nearly screamed now. “I’m happy that it’s over!”
Everyone was staring at her in disbelieve. Jon wanted to stand up, but Dot put her hand on his thigh, shaking her head no. This was the emotional explosion she was waiting for all the last days.
Breathing heavily Kris continued. “I lost my mother twelve years ago. That day she started taking those drugs from this guy…and I miss THAT woman.” Jon looked at her shocked.
Kris found his eyes. “The person you knew didn’t exist anymore the last twelve years. She died of an overdose of cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, alcohol…maybe painkillers…whatever! They didn’t find out for sure.” She stopped again. “She was never there for me. She wasn’t there at my first day at school or when I needed to go to the doctor and I really hate doctors…” Tears started shining in her eyes
“…she never made me breakfast or dinner, kissed me goodnight or hugged me. I never could count on her…I learned the hard way that not all people are nice and I should better lock my door… that night when one of her dealers or suitors came into my room when I was seven.” Kris sobbed.
Her nightmare, Jon thought…..oh, please no! His hands clenched to fists. This bastard!!
“Fortunately he was way too stoned to get it up and I could push him off me.” Thank god, Jon closed his eyes briefly.
“But she didn’t care that I was screaming for her…I swore myself I would only count on myself, I would never trust anyone again, I would never love again, I would never get hurt again!” screaming the last words Kris ran off the room.
They all looked at each other shocked. Even Carol wasn’t saying anything, but leaning into her husbands arms for comfort. Richie looked at Jon and saw the horror in his eyes. He felt guilty not being there for his daughter when she needed him the most. David sat there with clenched teeth and saw Tico getting up and walking down to the gym. He needed to work his anger off.
Finally Jon got up and followed her. She was standing with her back to him when he entered the room. He could see her shoulders trembling, his heart arched if he could only take this pain and fear off her.
“Kris…” he said softly.
“You weren’t there…” She whispered. Jon swallowed hard. She turned around slowly, tears streaming down her face.
“You weren’t there. Why?” She repeated her question.
“Oh, sweetie.” He wanted to hold her in his arms and comfort her, she looked so lost. “I didn’t know your mother was pregnant.”
That was the answer she’d expected. But was it the truth?
“Do you really think I would have let you with her, if I knew about all that?” He asked.
She shook her head. No, he wouldn’t. Not the way he was acting since she was here. The way he was treating the little ones. His kids meant everything to him. Finally she realized that her mother was the parent who wasn’t acting the common way; that he would do anything to take care of her; that he really wanted to help her.
The tears ran stronger down her face, Kris whipped them away angrily. He shouldn’t see her weakness.
“Sweetie….You know that you are save here…and you trust us already…” She looked at him…scared. “You don’t lock your door at night.“ he explained. Slowly he stepped forward. “You can always count on me, Kris. It doesn’t matter what will happen…I’m there. And I swear to God if I never get my hands on that bastard who came into your room, I’ll kill him.”
Kris could see the emotions in his face. He really meant that. Jon took another step towards her. “Kris, I think you even love this family already.” She shook her head vehemently with eyes wide in shock.
Jon sighed. Oh, yeah that thing called love. He could remember pretty well how scared he was, but fortunately he had Dot. She didn’t give a damn about his stupid behaviour. She was able to make him see that he doesn’t have to be afraid of his emotions, and especially not of love.
“It’s ok to show emotions, Kris.” She looked at him unsure. “It’s not a sign of weakness and especially not when you show your emotions to me.” He added softly.
“I will always be there for you, sweetie…even if you don’t want it! Simply because you are my daughter.” He reached for her hands. “Come here, sweetie!” and pulled her softly in his arms.
In the first moment Kris tensed again, but then her body relaxed. She started sobbing uncontrollable, pressing herself closer to him, taking in his scent, her hands clenched in his shirt.
Jon just held her and when her knees buckled, he picked her up and sat down with her on the couch. She curled herself up in his lap, pressing her heated face to his shoulder like small kids do. He cradled her, telling her everything was over, that he would protect her from now on.
After a while Jon could see Dot looking around the corner. Seeing Jon holding Kris in his arms, she nodded slightly and closed the door.
“You’re shirt is all wet…” Kris said suddenly and tried to rub the wet spot away.
Jon smiled. “That’s ok, sweetie.” He took her hand and kissed her palm. Thinking about his next comment, he softly swept the blond streak from her face. Framing her face with his hands, he said. “I love you, Kris.”
Her eyes grew wide. “I…I…..I…” she stuttered and started trembling again.
“Shhhh, it’s okay, sweetie. I know you need some time to figure that out. But I think it’s important that you know how I feel.” Soothingly he rubbed her back.
“Okay?” he asked.
“Ok.” she answered and leaned her head back against his chest. His arms engulfed her protectively. Kris sighed. She could hear his heartbeat…this feels good, she thought the minute before she felt asleep; the first time without nightmares. Smiling Jon watched her.
“Hey!” he pouted. She looked at him and smiled. “Good morning.”
“You know, there’s a reason why I didn’t dress you in your sleep shirt last night, darling. I had plans with you this morning.” He said still pouting.

Chapter fourteen
“Are you ready?” Jon yelled upstairs. He really wanted to leave now. Jesse was already standing next to him in his pirate costume, jumping from one foot to another, anxious to go. Jon knew this excitement was all that kept him awake. He didn’t sleep a lot last night, because he was so excited and sooner or later he would collapse and fall asleep. So for Jesse’s sake, they had to leave now. But the girls weren’t ready yet.
Finally Steph came running down the stairs in a sparkling pink, light blue princess dress with a shining diadem in her blond hair.
“Your highness.” Jon said when Steph reached the last step and took a bow. Steph giggled and patted his head. “You’re funny, daddy.” He picked her up in his arms and gave her kiss on the cheek. “You look great, babygirl.”
“Thanks daddy” she beamed. “But Kris looks really, really great.”
“Yeah?” he had no idea what costume Kris and Dot chose.
“Yeah, look!” Steph said and pointed upstairs.
Jon’s eyes followed her outstretched arm. His eyes grew wide in surprise. “Wow!” he mumbled.
The brown color of her dress made Kris look even thinner. The wide skirt hid her feet and it seemed like she was floating. The light orange arms appeared like wings. Her hair was hold out of her face with one clip and big blond curls were running down her back. Her soft skin was glowing lightly even though she wasn’t wearing much make-up. She simply looked amazing. So different and….fragile, Jon thought. His need to protect her grew even stronger.
Reaching the end of the stairs, she glanced at Jon unsure. He smiled. “You look great, Kris.” He softly kissed her cheek. She flushed slightly and whispered “Thank you.”
“Ok, let’s go.” The kids moved outside. Jon turned around to Dot. “Great job, darling.”
She smiled “She needed that. Maybe you two can talk with each other tonight.” She eyed him.
“DADDY! COME ON!” Jesse yelled.
“We’ll see.” He kissed her cheek and hurried outside. “I’m coming…don’t yell like that Jesse!”
******************************
Dot sighed and put her coat on. Jon and the kids were already back a couple hours and Dot didn’t have good news for him. Miss Johnson called to let them know that the German Department of Children and Families Services wouldn’t give out any information about Kris or her mother. They said they want to protect the child. What bullshit! Right now she needs help; they weren’t protecting her, but only causing bigger harm. Dot was more than angry about it and so was Jon.
Steph and Jesse were sleeping upstairs in their rooms…of course in their costumes. No way of getting them out of them.
Kris was still awake, sitting in her room playing guitar. She and Jon didn’t really talk about their argument tonight, but somehow they came to the silent agreement that the fight was over. Actually Jon was glad about it. Sex wasn’t a topic he wanted to discuss with his daughter. He was scared that he would stutter with a deep red flushed face when she would asked him something concrete or even worse that she wouldn’t have a question, because she already had experiences. She was his daughter, just the thought of her having sex…no, no, no….not his sweetie.
When Jon went upstairs two hours ago and heard the song she was playing on guitar, he suddenly wasn’t able to walk into her room anymore and talk with her about her mother like he’d planned. Instead he more or less escaped into the studio.
Runaway! Why was she playing Runaway? It scared the shit out of him. Was she thinking about running away? It was true that he had no idea what was going on in her mind, but he really tried to understand her. Was he like the parents he described in the song? Oh, my god…please not!
Dotty tried to calm him. Telling him that Kris needed just more time before finally opening herself and show him all her feelings. Jon sighed. Maybe Dot was right.
Dotty, he smiled. What would he do without her? He would be lost…she’s the only one who’s really understanding me…well, maybe Richie, but that’s something completely different!!
Deep in his thoughts Jon didn’t hear Dot walking into the studio and remove her coat. She watched him sitting on the piano bench strumming his acoustic guitar lightly. Suddenly he looked up. “Hi Dotty.” He smelled her perfume.
“Are you ok, Jon?” she asked worried.
“Yeah, I’m fine…Kris just scared me a bit by playing that song.” He tried to smooth her.
“And then you have nothing better to do to runaway on your own?” she asked reproachful and a bit sad.
Jon held out his hand. “I’m sorry, darling…Come here, sit down next to me.” He patted the bench. Dot walked over to him and sat down. He kissed her softly.
“Listen, darling.” He said, strummed his guitar and started singing in a low voice
It’s hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
Dot smiled. So true.
There’s no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We’ll leave the world outside
All I’ve got to give to you
Are these five words when I
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn’t see
For parting my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
Dots eyes started shinning with tears.
I never knew I had a dream
Until the dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky’s a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried you’d make believe
That you believed my lies
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn’t see
For parting my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me
She smiled and remembered those terrible years after the New Jersey Tour. She really thought she would lose him back at that time and not only because he nearly jumped out of a driving car.

“Oh, Jon. That was wonderful. Thank you.” Dot had tears running down her face by now. So many emotional moments of their shared life were captured by this song. She put her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.
“No, thank you, Dotty.” He said and held her close, while she tried to calm down. He knew that some things that happened in the past were just too much for her, but she always tried to stay strong for him. Shortly before the circus with “Keep the Faith” started again, he promised her he would never get so lost in his work again and talk with her about his problems.
“Where are the kids?” he asked after a while.
“Steph and Jesse are asleep. Kris is watching them. But we should better go back.” Dot said and stood up. But he didn’t let go of her hand.
“Let’s stay here a bit longer, darling.” She looked at him surprised. He put his hands on her hips and pulled her back to him, making her body run down a scale on the keys.
“Jon!” Dot gasped when he pushed her to sit on the keys and captured her between the grand piano and his spread legs. She put her hands on his shoulders to steady herself. He pushed her pullover slowly up and bent down to kiss her flat belly. Dot moaned. Somehow this scene reminds her of “Pretty woman”.
He took his time to explore her navel. Dipping his tongue in it over and over again. Then softly kissed his way up to her gorgeous breasts. “Raise your arms, darling.” He whispered and pulled the pullover over her head.
Dot shivered in excitement. “Cold, baby?” he asked her.
She shook her head no. She was on fire. The way his eyes were travelling over body made her tremble and her panties more than drenched. His hands ran over her body, squeezing her breasts firmly, running his thumbs over her nipples, not letting go of them until they were standing in proud attention.
Dot moaned. “Jon.” Smiling he removed her bra and took one of her nipples in his mouth, caressing it with his tongue while his hand rubbed her other breast softly. Her hands ran through his hair, holding his head in place. When Jon sucked hard at her nipple and pinched the other one, her knees buckled, “JON!” she screamed.
His strong arms caught her. “Come here, baby.” He said with loving eyes and lifted her up to lie down on the grand piano, her feet resting on the keys, causing tones to appear when she moved them slightly.
“Here you can scream as loud as you want, baby.” He added with an evil grin, while pulling down her jeans. Her hips started moving involuntary as soon as his hands wandered up her thighs. She was so damn ready!
Jon could feel the heat of her body and a light film of sweat, her eyes were nearly black and watching him when he touched her through the thin material of her panties. Jon groaned. She was so wet, her panties were soaked. He could smell her arousal and it went straight to his cock. He wanted to be inside her, he wanted to feel her sweet heat.
“Oh, baby!” Jon pushed his own jeans down and ribbed the panties of her body.
“Jon!” Dot gasped surprised.
“I need you baby, I need you so much.” With one deep trust he entered her. Dot moaned when he filled her completely. Her hands tried to find a hold somewhere, knowing what would come next. Jon nearly slipped out of her completely before he pushed himself back into her forcefully. The trust nearly let Dot slip of the grand piano. His hold tightened at her hips. She knew she would have bruises tomorrow, but didn’t care. It’s just felt so good.
“Jon. Jon, take me hard…Jon…Oh, god…fuck me Jon…” Dot screamed. Her voice echoed back from the walls. She didn’t have to tell him twice. He speeded up immediately and pumping almost furious in and out of her.
She watched him holding her tight with clenched teeth and a nearly murderous look on his face. Sweat was running down his head and she wished she could see his well build chest, but he didn’t take the time to get out of his pullover. She could feel her orgasm building up, her hands clenched around Jon’s strong forearms. The next second her body exploded “JON!” she screamed while her orgasm nearly catapulted her of the grand piano.
His grip tightened even more to hold her in place and when her walls clenched strongly around him, he found his own release. “Oh, yes…DOTTY!” Breathing heavily, Jon collapsed on top of her. Her hands ran through his sweaty hair. It’s been a while since she had such a forceful orgasm. She wasn’t sure she could move.
“’k, baby” Jon wasn’t able to speak yet, but he needed to know.
“Mmmh.” Was her only reply.
When Jon was finally able to move and think clearly again, he moved off Dot and pulled his jeans back on.
“Dotty?” he looked at his wife, laying on the grand piano gloriously naked and exhausted. What a picture! He caressed her cheek softly.
“Dotty, we have to go back to the house. I’m sure Kris wants to sleep.” He said. Dot groaned. She wasn’t able to move. Jon helped her sat up and put on her pullover. She looked at him with sleepy eyes, sliding her arms around him; she pulled him close for a kiss. He lifted her down the piano and pulled her jeans up her hips.
“Underwear?” she asked confused.
He grabbed her bra and the destroyed panties from the floor and pushed them in his jeans pocket. “Mine!” he grinned at her. She shook her head.
Leaning heavily on Jon, they walked back to the house. Jon carried her upstairs and laid her down on the bed. Checking on the kids, he told Kris that they were back now. Nodding she turned out the lights and tried to sleep.
When he came back to their bedroom, Dot was already asleep. Smiling he pulled her out of her clothes again. Stripping his clothes off, he crawled between the sheets. Pulling her close, he felt asleep immediately.

Chapter thirteen
There was an icy atmosphere between Jon and Kris the next couple days. Even David was a little shocked when he came over to work on some songs with Kris. He tried to give Kris some comfort through the music, but somehow it wasn’t working. She wasn’t able to relax. David wanted to pull her into his arms and comfort her, but knew she would freak out. If at least Jon would act different…
But Jon was still thinking she was irresponsible while she thought all he wanted to do was control her. Richie told him to relax, when Jon talked to him on the phone about this fucked up situation.
“I’ll remind you when you freak out after you caught Ava with a boy in ten plus years!” Jon answered slightly pissed and Richie shut up.
Dot finally told Jon that he’s the parent and maybe it’s time to act like one and do the first step. He tried, but Kris was blocking. She didn’t want him come close to her.
“I don’t know what to do anymore, Dot?” Jon said one afternoon when they were both sitting in the living room.
“Jon, she needs time.” Dot replied. He sighed and nodded. Patience is a virtue. Just too bad it wasn’t one of his.
“You know what bothers me the most? I don’t know how she lived in Germany. I don’t know how Susi died. Maybe when I would know all this, I would be able to understand her better.” He shook his head. “I mean, it’s not really normal that she’s so uncomfortable with hugging or showing affection. And this nightmare she seems to have…I don’t know…” Jon squeezed the bridge of his nose.
Dot nodded in understanding. “When we asked her all those questions she’ll probably freak out completely, Jon. I don’t think she already trusts us enough to talk about her past. Maybe…” she paused briefly. “…maybe we could contact someone in Germany. I mean the Department of Children and Families Services should be able to answer at least a couple of our questions.” She suggested, even though she felt bad doing it behind Kris’ back.
“Yeah, you probably right. I will call Miss Johnson. She should be able to contact her colleague in Germany.” Jon stood up and headed into his office. He really needed answers as soon as possible.

With Halloween coming up, Dot suggested that Kris would go with Jon and the kids for trick or treat.
“You never celebrated Halloween before.” Dot said. “Or do you want to go to a party tomorrow night?” She asked while helping Jesse to draw a spooky pumpkin.
Kris shook her head no. That girl…Alex, she invited her, but Kris said no. She had no idea what she should do at such a party.
“Well, then go with the others. It’s also a good chance for your dad and you to get over the fight, huh?” She looked at Kris.
“Ok.” Kris sighed.
“Oh, great! What kind of costume will you wear?” Steph asked excited and stopped coloring her evil witch.
“I don’t need a costume.” Kris said.
“But it’s Halloween. You must have a costume!” Steph answered defiant. “I’m a princess.” She added with gleaming eyes.
“And I’m a pirate.” Jesse said, nearly falling of his chair.
“Why don’t you go as a princess as well?” Steph suggested.
Kris had seen Steph’s dress…all pink and blue. Definitely not her style.
“There can only be one princess, Steph.” She said and hoped it would save her.
“You are right. Come on, we go over to the costume shop and find you something nice.” Dot said and before Kris could even reply she called, “Jon! Could you please watch Steph and Jesse, Kris and I are going out to find a Halloween costume for her.”
“Yeah, sure!” was the muffled reply from the living room. He didn’t take any stock in that idea and that Miss Johnson told him it could be difficult to get information from Germany wasn’t helping his mood either.
********************************
“What do you want?” Dot asked Kris while looking through some costumes.
“I don’t know.” Kris shrugged her shoulders. She still thought this was absolutely unnecessary.
Dot glanced at her and picked out a pink-white fairy tale dress with lots of frills. Kris looked at her in shock.
“NO!” she said.
“You better start looking yourself Kris or I will pick something. You don’t want to go as an animal or something, right?” Dot said and held up a cat costume. Kris just gave her a look.
She already realized Dot could be very demanding, but maybe it was necessary to deal with the Bongiovi stubbornness. She bit her bottom lip. She seemed to be the only one who was treating her normal…well except the kids.
“Maybe something in dark colors…black, blue or brown…” Kris suggested and continued to look through the costumes.
“How about that?” Dot held up a brown renaissance dress with a flared skirt and long orange arms, which got wider at the end. It had a little orange belt around the waist, the cleavage was framed in the same orange and didn’t reveal too much. Dot was sure Jon would appreciate that.
Kris carefully touched the soft material of the dress.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispered.
“Come on, try it on.” Dot said walking over to the changing-room.
“Are you sure?” Kris asked nervous.
“Yeah.” Dot looked at her surprised. She could see that Kris liked the dress. So where was the problem?
“Uhm…it’s just….I’ve never worn a dress before.” Dot could barely hear her whisper.
“Never?” She looked at the young woman in disbelieve. “How about skirts?” She asked.
Kris shook her head no and flushed deeply. God this was so embarrassing.
“I’m sure you’ll look absolutely great in the dress. Come on baby, I’ll help you.” Dot softly pushed Kris behind the curtain of the changing room. She couldn’t believe it.
After a while she stepped out again. “Kris, get out of there…come on, baby…you look beautiful in it.” She encouraged her.
Hesitant Kris walked out of the changing room and over to one of the big mirrors. She couldn’t believe that it was herself she was staring at. I look so different, she thought.
Dot could see the emotions in Kris’ face. I knew it; somewhere in there is a little girl that wants to play dressing up. She’s not as tough as she acts. Sensitive as her father…and also too scared to show it.
An older sales woman approached them and nodded approvingly “This dress was made for you.”
Kris smiled slightly and let her hands ran over the material at her waist. Dot nodded. “Good! We take it.”
Back in the car Dot sighed. “I still have so much stuff to do for the BBQ the day after tomorrow.”
“Why are you doing a BBQ at this time of the year? Isn’t it a bit to cold for that already?” Kris asked curious.
“Well, normally we invited the family and the band during the summer, but this year we didn’t find the time for it. So, we do it now!” Dot explained. “I really hope the tent is already there!” She added.
“Tent?” Kris looked at her in surprise.
“Yeah, we are having a huge tent in the backyard with heating…otherwise it would be too cold.” Dot smiled.
Kris shook her head. And she thought this would be a normal BBQ. Think again!
But Jon was still thinking she was irresponsible while she thought all he wanted to do was control her. Richie told him to relax, when Jon talked to him on the phone about this fucked up situation.

Chapter twelve
When they were trying to get Steph and Jesse to bed after dinner the doorbell rang. Jesse ran full speed to the door and opened it.
“RICHIE!” he screamed and launched himself into the guitar player’s arms.
“Hey, buddy. Why are you running around here in your pyjamas?” he asked while he picked him up.
“Cause he’s a bad boy and doesn’t wanna go to bed.” Was Jon’s breathless reply. This kid was fast. Dammit, I’m getting old. Richie laughed when he saw his exhausted friend.
“What are you doing here anyway?” Jon asked and pulled a now crying Jesse into his arms.
“Well, don’t we have this…thing…tomorrow morning? I thought I help you out.” Richie answered.
Jon chuckled. “I already thought I have to do it alone. Come on, you can help us get them to bed.” He walked up stairs.
“Richie.” Steph jumped out of her bed again when she saw him in the hallway.
“Stephanie Rose!” Dot was close to explode. Tonight was one of these nights again. Richie picked the little girl up and carried her back into her room.
“Hi Dot.” He kissed her cheek. She shook her head and knew very well that he tried to calm her down with that smile.
“So, where is the new edition to the family?” Richie asked when they were finally walking downstairs again. Jon frowned.
“You better don’t say things like that when you meet her.” Was his dry comment.
“No humor, huh? Runs in the family. Poor girl.” Richie joked, but stopped when he saw the look on Jon’s face.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“She just had been through a lot and she isn’t used to people who love her or care…or hug her.” Dot added.
“Wow.” Richie didn’t know what to say. “Do you have any information about her?”
“No, not really. Just the few hints she gave us so far.” Jon sighed. “She’s very withdrawn.”
“I see.” Richie said and tried to remain reticent, when he entered the room with the grand piano. He stopped surprised when he noticed that blond girl playing piano very well.
Kris stopped playing when he saw her father standing next to the piano.
“What?” she asked aggressive. She was still pissed at him.
“Don’t start like that again, Kris. I tried to explain why I was angry earlier.” Jon told her off. Her eyes narrowed.
“I would like you to meet my best friend…” he gestured towards his wingman. “…this is Richie, he’s playing guitar in the band…” he looked at Richie. “…Rich, my daughter Kris.”
Kris turned around and stared at Richie like a deer in the headlights. He smiled and shook her hand softly. “Hi, darling.”
“Hi.” She stumbled. Oh, shit! Why does he have to be tall, dark and handsome…and those browns eyes. I’m so screwed…
*****************************
The next day Kris was still angry with Jon. She couldn’t lose the feeling that he wanted to control her. It was a good thing that Dot was taking her to school, because Jon had some early business calls to attend, before he and Richie had another radio interview in NY.
After dropping Steph and Jesse off, Dot stopped in front of the high school.
“When you are coming home this afternoon, Jon, Richie and I will not be there. We all have some things to do in NY, but we’ll be back around 5 p.m. Steph and Jess are with Jon’s parents, ok?”
“Ok, fine.” Kris said and jumped out of the car.
***********************************
When Jon and Dot were coming home that afternoon after they dropped Richie off at his parent’s place, they saw a black dirty rusty car standing in front of the house.
“Do you expect someone?” Jon said while passing the car.
“No, but maybe Kris brought friends home.” Dot guessed. Jon frowned slightly. He didn’t like strangers in his house when he wasn’t there.
“Jon. Be nice.” Dot warned before opening the door.
“Yeah, yeah…” he answered.
Entering the house, he could hear the TV in the living room. Walking in, he stopped dead.
Kris was lying on the couch; a guy on top of her. They were kissing and…their tops were gone. Kris’ hands were running through his dark brown hair and up and down his back, while one of his hands was on her breasts and the other was wandering down her belly to the waist band of her jeans....their hips were moving…like, like….Jon finally snapped out of his shock.
“HEH!” he yelled. Oh, what a great sentence. But it worked.
They guy jumped up immediately and Jon figured out that he probably interrupted them in the last minute. That guy could barely walk.
Dot ran in, because she heard Jon yelling and stopped with wide open eyes.
“What the fuck…?” She was dreaming, right?
“Uhm…uhm…I better go.” the guy stuttered and left with his shirt in his hand. That look on her father’s face was murderous.
Kris stood there with her hands on her hips. “What are you thinking?” she asked and tried to get her breathing under control.
That’s it, Jon thought. “What AM I thinking? What are YOU thinking?” he yelled. “And put your top back on!”
Kris flushed and grabbed her shirt. “That’s not your business. It’s my life.” And I fuck who I want to fuck, she thought. Be happy that I didn’t jump Richie last night.
“Oh, really? Well, I let you in, in a little secret! I AM your father, this is my business and there’s definitely no room for SEX in your life!” he was furious by now.
“Jon...” Dot tried to calm him down.
“No, Dorothea! Don’t try to defend her!” Dot backed off, when he was calling her with her full name, he was more than pissed.
Kris looked at him defiant, her eyes narrowed, but didn’t say a word. Instead she picked up the package of cigarettes the guy left back. When walking past Jon, he grabbed her strong at her arm, taking the cigarettes out of her hand and looked her deep in the eyes.
“I want you to come back from school immediately when the last lesson is over! And if you are not here with the first bus, I’ll come and get you!” he said with clenched teeth and a scary calm voice.
Shit! Dot thought. She knew he would explode in the next seconds. Please, Kris, please…..just go upstairs, she pleaded in her mind.
Luckily Kris did that. Still fuming Jon ran around in the living room.
“FUCK!” he yelled and threw the cigarettes against the wall.
“Jon, calm down please.” Dot said.
“How? How should I calm down? She nearly had SEX with that idiot.” He screamed.
“She’s sixteen! Do you remember what we did when we were sixteen?” she tried to calm him again.
“That’s something completely different!” he replied.
“Why?” Dot was curious.
“Cause I loved you, you loved me, we loved us… when we were sixteen. We knew each other for several months before we slept the first time with each other. She…” He pointed upstairs. “…she can only know this guy for not even 72 hours.”
He wouldn’t calm down. “She can’t love him!...Oh, and by the way do you see condoms here?...Why is she doing things like that?” he couldn’t understand it.
“Maybe she wants to feel loved.” Dot said carefully.
Jon turned around and looked at her surprised. “I DO love her, Dot!” he said a bit hurt.
“I know that, Jon. I can see it, because I know you. But she doesn’t and it’s obvious that she’s not able to deal with emotions very well. Something that’s not new for you, right? You know how difficult it can be. You learned over the years to at least let me see all your feelings.” Jon sighed and let himself fall onto the couch.
“And…” he looked at Dot again. “We shouldn’t forget that she never had the chance to rebel against her father. Everyone is doing it in a different way. You did it with your long hair, I simply by being together with you.”
“You…you…you mean she did that on purpose?” he was stunned.
“Well, I don’t know. All I know is that I told her we would be back around 5 p.m.” Dot said shrugging her shoulders.
Jon looked at his watch. 5:10 pm. SHIT!

Chapter eleven
Monday morning was much calmer than Friday. While Dot took Steph and Jesse to school, Jon and Kris reached the local High School. The lesson had already started, so no one was outside the building or watched them walk in. Jon arranged it that way on purpose. He didn’t want to risk a group of photographers here at her first day at school with all the other students watching it. Fortunately the press seemed still unaware of Kris .
They had a short talk with the principal. Kris was really quite all the time and watched Jon talk or answer the questions. He really seemed to enjoy that, she thought. Always in charge, always in control…hmpf…not with me!!
“I’m sure you won’t have a problem with the test.” The principal said after he looked at her report cards.
Kris nodded. “Well, if there will be a problem then probably American history. They don’t teach that in Germany. All I know is that Columbus discovered it accidentally in 1492 and that it consists of 51 states.” She added with a slight smile.
The principal smiled back at her. “Well, your history teacher can tell you which books to read and maybe you find another student who will help you when you have problems with homework…I’m sure you’ll catch up really fast.”
Jon nodded and watched her leaving the office to do the test. To Kris’ surprise he wanted to wait while she took her test. What’s he thinking I don’t need someone holding my hand, I’m not a baby! She tried to get her temper under control and focus on the questions on the papers in front of her.
“Do you have security here at school?” Jon asked the principal after Kris left.
“Yes, we have Mr. Bongiovi. Do you expect problems?” was the calm counter question.
“Well, I hope not. But I’m not sure how the press will react when they find out that Kris is my daughter. I really don’t want her be followed by these vultures all the time.” Jon explained his concern.
The principal nodded in understanding. “If they show up, we’ll make sure Kris is safe and inform you.”
“Thanks. I really appreciate that.” Jon said.
A while later Kris came back, followed by her new English teacher, who oversaw the test. As expected her results were good, except history. She’ll need to work on that.
“I’ll pick you up at 3 pm, sweetie.” Jon said while giving her a small hug before she left for her first class today. Kris frowned, but didn’t say anything.
When Jon arrived at home, Dot awaited him at the door.
“Don’t tell me, you stayed with her all the time, Jon.” She said reproachful.
“Yeah, I did. Where’s the problem?” He asked.
“Jon, she’s sixteen, I’m sure she doesn’t want you around all the time ...and she’s not use to such attention. You know that.” Dot explained calmly.
“I just want to give her all the support she needs. It’s her first day at school in a country she doesn’t know. I wanted to show her that I’ll be there for her.” Even if she doesn’t want it, he added in his mind.
Dot sighed. “Just don’t try to control her too much Jon.”
“I…I would never…” But Dot’s look made him stop.
“Ok.” He sighed.
“When will she be home?” Dot asked.
“I’ll pick her up at three.” He replied.
“JON!” she couldn’t believe it.
“What? She’s my daughter. Am I not allowed to pick her up?” he was getting angry.
Dot shook her head; she knew it wouldn’t make sense to talk to him now.
Punctual 3 pm Jon was at the school. Kris walked straight down the stairs without looking at anyone else and got in the car. She didn’t say a word. Jon sighed and pulled out of the parking lot.
“How was it?” he asked after a while.
“Fine.”
“Did you find someone to help you with history?” he looked briefly at her.
“Yeah.” It wasn’t exactly a lie. A girl named Alex came up to her and wanted to help her, not only with history, but with all other things, but Kris declined. She really didn’t need anyone’s help.
At home Kris headed straight up to her room and only came back downstairs for dinner. Dot looked at Jon meaningful. He sighed. Shit dammit. Seems Kris was pissed. I’ll never understand teenagers.

“Can I take the bus?” Kris asked Tuesday morning during breakfast
Dot shot a look at Jon. He obliviously didn’t like that idea.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, sweetie.” He said and sipped at his coffee.
“I’ll never find friends, when you drive me all the time.” She replied. Not that she wanted friends, but it was a good argument.
“Can’t you find some while you are at school?” He asked. Dot shook her head.
“Why don’t we drive you in the morning and you take the bus back in the afternoon.” She suggested. Jon frowned.
“We are driving in that direction anyway to bring Steph and Jesse to school.” Dot continued. „Yours is only two blocks away and you can sleep a little longer, but it would be really helpful if we don’t have to pick you up in the afternoon. You always have longer school than Steph and Jesse.”
Jon starred at her angry. Kris just nodded. “Great.”
Dot looked at Jon, raising her eyebrows. “Ok, ok…if that’s what everyone wants.” He said slightly pissed.
“Here, Kris...” he gave her some money. She looked at him questioningly. “…just in case. Get a taxi, if there’s a problem with the bus.”
She nodded and took the money. Slightly shocked how much it was. She couldn’t remember ever holding so much money in her hands…80 dollars.

That afternoon Jon already regretted his decision. It was nearly 5:30 pm, Kris had school till 3 pm and she wasn’t at home yet.
He was angry! Angry about Kris not being here, angry about Dot being on Kris’ side this morning, but mostly angry about himself letting Dot talk him into that.
“Jon, calm down. Maybe she met some friends and they are talking and she just forgot the time.” Dot tried to calm her husband, but he wouldn’t stop running around in the living room like a captured lion.
“This is absolutely irresponsible from her. I should never ever agree to that stupid idea.” He cursed, taking a look at his watch again.
In the next second the main door opened and Kris entered the house.
“Where the fuck have you been? We are worried sick?” he stormed towards her down the hallway. Dot right behind him to interfere if those two Bongiovi tempers should collide.
Kris looked surprised and a bit shocked. The way he ran towards her was scary. Why was he so angry?
“I was at the library.” She answered unsure.
“What?” Jon couldn’t believe it. Was she lying? Was this just a poor excuse?
“I had history lesson today and I needed to read some stuff to do my homework.” Kris explained.
“Why are you freaking out?” she added, her eyes narrowing.
“Why I am freaking out?” Jon nearly shouted. “Because I had no idea where you were, I was worried.”
Kris snorted. “Yeah, right.”
Jon’s eyes narrowed as well. This was the first time Kris answered him back.
“No one has ever cared where I’ve been. So you do it all of a sudden. I think you just want to control me, but it’s my life…you will not control it!” she was angry. What was he thinking?
Jon took a deep breath. She really didn’t see the point. As calm as possible he said “Kris, if your mother didn’t care when you came home or what you were doing… fine, but I do care. I was worried! There are so many idiots out there, who can hurt you, so many accidents happen every day and if the press figures out that you are my daughter they won’t leave you alone…” he closed his eyes briefly “… I don’t want to control you, I want protect you…” He looked her directly in the eyes “…that’s what parents do, they protect their kids.”
Kris stared at him. She was stunned and had no idea what to say.
Parents protect their kids.
This sentence echoed in her mind. Does he really mean that? It’s so hard to believe…no one ever cared. She always had to do things on her own. She doesn’t need protection. Maybe the little ones need it…and maybe it would have been good if she had someone she could count on when she was Steph’s age, but now…no, she doesn’t need that.
Jon could see that she wasn’t really getting it. This seemed to be a completely new concept to her. Didn’t Susi take care of her? He couldn’t believe she wouldn’t treat Kris right. If he would just understand why Kris doesn’t let anyone come close…
Dot watched the scene carefully. She could see that Jon’s anger was gone; he was worried now, because Kris wasn’t responding to his words the way he’d expected. I wish I could see what’s going on in her head. Why does she want to keep her distance, especially to Jon?
“Why don’t you bring your books upstairs, Kris? Dinner will be ready in a couple minutes.” Dot said and tried to relax the situation a bit. Kris nodded briefly and went upstairs.
“She didn’t do it on purpose Jon.” She said when Kris was gone.
“I know. But I don’t understand why she wasn’t even thinking about us being worried. It nearly seems that Susi was never worried about her not being at home or late.” Jon shook his head and sighed. “I will tell her to call us the next time she’s late.” Dot nodded and gave him a small kiss.
